Our Story
From a seaside idea to Cairns' friendliest casino resort
Happyglimmer began in 2016, when hospitality veteran Amelia R. Whitford walked along the Cairns Esplanade and noticed something missing: a casino hotel where guests were treated as people, not account numbers. While the industry rushed towards apps and online platforms, Amelia took the opposite path. She secured a property at 45 The Esplanade and built a venue where every game, every meal and every conversation happens face-to-face.
The first two years were spent restoring the building's tropical Art Deco character and assembling a team of professional dealers, chefs and hotel staff who shared the same belief — that hospitality is a craft practised in person. When the doors opened in 2017, Happyglimmer welcomed its first guests with 20 rooms and eight gaming tables.
Who We Are Today
A boutique casino hotel with a big personality
Today, Happyglimmer operates 48 rooms and suites, a casino floor with 26 live tables, a 120-seat conference hall and a private gaming lounge for closed events. We remain deliberately and proudly 100% offline: there is no online casino, no betting app and no remote play of any kind. If you want the Happyglimmer experience, you come to Cairns — and we think that is exactly how it should be.
Our team of more than 60 staff includes croupiers trained to international standards, concierge professionals who know every reef tour and rainforest track in the region, and an events crew that has delivered over 400 corporate and private functions. We are licensed and regulated in Queensland, enforce strict 18+ entry, and run responsible-play programs in partnership with local support services.
What sets us apart is not scale but sincerity. Regular guests are greeted by name. First-time visitors are walked through the casino floor by a host. Event organisers deal with one dedicated coordinator from first call to final invoice. In an industry that often hides behind screens, Happyglimmer stands behind its people.
